Key Stage 3

We are following a 2 year Key Stage 3 scheme of work. The topics covered and the level of difficulty will vary according to which set your son or daughter is in but all students will be regularly assessed and set moves may take place at any point in the year to help students achieve their full potential. Projected topics to be covered are attached below; students will follow the most appropriate route to allow them to maximise their progress. Those in the top sets will also be given the opportunity to enter the Junior Maths Challenge and every year many of our students achieve certificates.

Key Stage 4

Year 9, 10 and 11

Students will be taking the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics (9-1). This examination has considerably more content than its predecessor and so we start the students on this course in year 9. The new examination will be graded 1 to 9. Students studying for grades 1 to 5 will take the Foundation tier and those working at 5 to 9 will take the Higher tier.  The topics that that the students will follow are attached below as a guideline; students will be tested on a regular basis to ensure they are on track to meet minimum expected targets.

Students at Key Stage 4 may take part in team maths challenge competitions as well as the individual Intermediate Maths Challenge competition. A few of our most able students will gain certificates from the Senior Maths Challenge.

Key Stage 5

Year 12 follow the Edexcel scheme of work for modules Core 1, Core 2 and S1 (statistics and probability).

Year 13 continue to follow the Edexcel scheme of work and study modules: Core 3, Core 4 and Decision 1.
